There’s a voice inside of you. The one that’s down deep. The one that knows what’s real and how you really feel. When you listen to that voice, and let…

Things Fall Apart

Things Fall Apart

Well, we’re nearing day 30 of quarantine and I don’t know about you but it’s been a roller coaster of emotions. Unfortunately several people I know have contracted COVID-19 One of my favorite uncles, who is not only a Pastor but 80 something years old, was admitted to ICU. I nearly lost it when I got that call. However, I remembered who had the final say. I can’t speak for anyone else but my faith has been carrying me through. Most have fully recovered but a few succumbed to the virus. I decided to take mini-break from social media last week. Even though as an entrepreneur it’s necessary to engage frequently online, I Could Not! I think the combination of so many deaths and my own health challenges drained me. I decided not to look at anything Pandemic related. No news, no alerts, no texts. I didn’t even watch Pandemic themed movies! Lol. It was necessary.

I’ve found that, when living away from your support system, you have to create internal check-ins. The great thing about quarantine time is that I wasn’t expected to go anywhere. Wooohoo, FREEDOM!!

I spent the week catching up on shows I’ve missed. Let me say The Morning Show on Apple TV was quite entertaining! I re-watched all the Marvel movies in sequential order. It was apparent that I fell in sleep at the theater for most of them. I read books that were well overdue. Gabrielle Unions’ We’re Gonna Need More Wine, was a good read but surprisingly, I couldn’t relate. Not Gabby’s fault, I just realized that I was a super conservative teen. My faith was certainly my saving grace. That’s a story for another day.

I experimented with a few recipes. Grilled pork chops anyone? I’m training to run my first 5k in 10 years. Just when I got down to a 10-minute mile…..I sprained my ankle pretty bad, here’s to the Flirty Forties! I spent a blissful afternoon playing with a friends’ niece. We colored, marker challenge is an actual thing. Barbie has a gang of shows on Netflix. And we had a build-a-thon with her blocks. There was a pillow fight and she helped me make dinner. A great distraction from an otherwise emotionally draining week. Ila definitely cheered me up!

The point of this all is to say it’s okay if you have a moment of anxiousness. These are heightened emotional times. Do what you need to do in order to feel emotionally secure. Shoot I spent an entire day meditating and listening to old Bishop G.E. Patterson messages, because they were from a time when my Dad, Uncle and Grandmother were still alive. It gave me some comfort. Right now we need all the comfort we can get.

I don’t know when things are going to go back to normal. Honestly, we’re in the process of defining a “New Normal”. In the meantime here’s my plan for anytime things feel overwhelming.

    1. Allow yourself grace to process.
    2. Step away from news outlet
    3. Turn off all alerts
    4. Log off the internet
    5. Read a book
